Guide / EN

How it works

The conversion tool decodes the actual local pixels, then writes a new JPEG, PNG, WebP or AVIF file. Dimensions stay unchanged and no resize or target-size setting can enter this action.

Transparency is detected from decoded alpha pixels rather than inferred from a PNG extension. A JPEG background warning appears only when the source really contains transparent pixels.

01

Formats and settings

  • Choose one output format; the current input format is excluded from the generic conversion choices.
  • Lossy outputs expose quality, while WebP and AVIF can use their explicit lossless mode.
  • JPEG background confirmation is required only after real transparency has been detected.
02

A concrete example

A transparent WebP logo can be converted to PNG without a background. Choosing JPEG for that same file shows the detected-alpha warning and requires an explicit background confirmation.

03

Know before you start

  • Converting a lossy source cannot restore discarded detail.
  • PNG can be substantially larger than modern lossy formats.
  • Animated files remain outside the supported static-image contract.

FAQ / 03

Frequently asked questions

Does conversion resize my image?

No. The conversion draft has no dimension fields and the canonical builder preserves the original dimensions.

Why do I sometimes see a JPEG background?

It appears only when decoded pixels contain real transparency and JPEG is selected.

Are metadata copied?

No. Sparkpond Image Tools creates a controlled pixel re-encode and validates the new output.
