How it works

Before decoding, Sparkpond Image Tools scans bounded file segments for metadata categories such as camera, date, GPS, author, comments, software, embedded thumbnails and color profiles. It reports categories rather than exposing sensitive values on screen.

Removal is achieved by decoding the pixels and creating a fresh image. The output scanner verifies that prohibited user blocks were not copied before enabling download.

Formats and settings

  • The clean-metadata preset keeps the source format and favors high quality for lossy output.
  • Color profile information can be removed as part of the clean re-encode, producing an 8-bit sRGB-oriented result.
  • JPEG, WebP and AVIF are re-encoded, so this is not a byte-preserving operation.

A concrete example

A travel JPEG may reveal that GPS, camera and date categories are present. The clean result contains newly encoded pixels and a safe filename, while the interface confirms removal only after output validation.

Know before you start

  • Sparkpond Image Tools does not promise forensic erasure of the original file; delete or protect that original separately.
  • Pixel appearance can change slightly with lossy formats, even at high quality.
  • Technical information required by the output format may remain; user-identifying metadata blocks do not.

Frequently asked questions

Can Sparkpond Image Tools show my GPS coordinates?

No. The interface intentionally reports the GPS category without rendering the sensitive value.

Are screenshots already metadata-free?

Not always. Software and text chunks can exist, so the output is still rebuilt and checked.

Does cleaning alter pixels?

It can. JPEG, WebP and AVIF require re-encoding; PNG pixels remain lossless but the file representation is new.
